Congratulations to Cathay Pacific on the successful relaunch of its direct service between Brussels and Hong Kong!
Speaking at the gala dinner in Brussels on 18 September to mark the occasion, Ms Shirley Yung, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, remarked, 'this is more than just a resumption of flight, but also a strong vote of confidence in the recovery of international travel and renewed connectivity between Hong Kong and Europe.'; Ms Yung welcomed the steadily rebuilding of Cathay Pacific's European network, highlighting the special significance of Brussels being not only the capital of Belgium but also as the centre of Europe.
She also underlined the Hong Kong Government's commitment to sustaining the city's role as a leading international aviation hub, referencing the commissioning of the Three-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport and enhanced cross-boundary links within the Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong also encourages both the local and non-local airlines to increase flight operations, while pursuing new air services agreements to further expand the global network.
Ms Yung further highlighted that, as one of the new initiatives in the Chief Executive's 2025 Policy Address, 'Hong Kong will capitalise on our role as an export platform to support Mainland Chinese enterprises in expanding their businesses overseas, including investing in the huge European markets. Together with Invest HK and HKTDC, we will be promoting two-way flow of enterprises and investments by organising business missions from Hong Kong to Europe, while facilitating European companies and start-ups to invest in Hong Kong.';
