On 5 and 7 May, we were in Zagreb and Sofia to promote wine and liquor trade opportunities in Hong Kong. Attendees were briefed on Hong Kong business-friendly environment with a special focus on the zero wine duties and low duties on liquor exports.
From 16 October 2024, the duty rate for liquor (with an alcoholic strength of over 30%) with import price over HKD 200 (around EUR 25) is reduced from 100% to only 10% for the portion above HKD 200 (around EUR 25). For example, for a bottle of premium liquor of import price EUR 100, the duty will be reduced from the previous EUR 100 to EUR 32.5 (i.e. a reduction of 67.5% in this case). The new duty rate is applicable to liquor of up to one litre. If a larger container is used, the duty payable will be calculated on a "value per litre" basis.
Coupled with the waiving of wine duty since 2008, the reduction of liquor duty makes Hong Kong an excellent trading and distribution hub for wine and liquor, boosting the development of the logistics industry and tourism. Do make use of Hong Kong as the trading platform and expand your business into the Asian markets.
